Guidelines Internal Mobility

  • Before applying for a role, we recommend that you first discuss your ambitions and plans with your current manager. Before any interview takes place, you must inform your current manager.

  • Because we strongly promote internal mobility, we aim to always invite internal candidates for an interview/conversation with the hiring manager.

  • Please note that there is no salary increase in case of a lateral move (for example, from P2 to P2). In case of a promotion, the promotion rules apply (4–10% increase).

  • If you apply and get a job with a lower salary scale (for example, from P3 to P2), your salary is set at the maximum of the new scale (120% of the new scale). If that is lower than your current salary, you get a temporary allowance for the difference: 100% in year 1, 66% in year 2, and 33% in year 3. After three years, this allowance stops. See more details on our Employment Conditions (page 21).

  • The transition date between your current and future role will be agreed between your current manager, future manager and yourself. The maximum transition period should not exceed 3 months.

  • An offer/new contract is usually not applicable in case of an internal move. After you have been informed that you will take on a new role, the recruiter will complete a transfer request and submit it to HR People Services. You will then receive a confirmation letter in Me@Work, which must be signed to confirm your agreement with the new role.

Internal Mobility Stories

At Van Lanschot Kempen, we believe that your talent is our greatest asset. Attracting new talent is essential, but retaining and nurturing our existing talent is equally important. We regularly highlight on our intranet story of colleagues who transitioned roles within our company. Are you exploring a new role? Read those stories to inspire you and perhaps your story will be here next!

Lucia Musitu Eugui!

With a strong background in mathematics and programming, Lucia moved from Spain and London to the Netherlands to start her career in financial markets. She joined Van Lanschot Kempen as an intern in Equity Research, where the supportive environment and steep learning curve confirmed her interest in the company. Realising her skills were better suited to a more quantitative role, she moved to the Quant Efficiency Data (QED) team in Treasury, helping build data-driven solutions for different teams. After exploring options and building connections through an internal career fair, she took a next step as a Specialist Modelling in the Credit Risk & Quantitative Modeling team. Her story shows how reflecting on your strengths, proactively talking to colleagues, and exploring different departments can open up new internal career opportunities.

Sebastiaan Flohil

With a background in applied psychology and a strong interest in finance, Sebastiaan joined Van Lanschot Kempen as an intern in the Talent Attraction team, where he especially enjoyed connecting with candidates. Curious about the financial side of our business, he explored other departments such as the private bank, Evi, and investment advisory, which sparked his interest in private banking. With support from his managers, he obtained his WFT qualifications and moved from a working student role in recruitment to a working student role in the private bank, alongside writing his thesis on the workload of Private Bankers and Relationship Managers in Healthcare. He now works as a Relationship Manager in the Healthcare department, helping medical specialists with their financing and long-term financial ambitions. His story shows how exploring other teams and taking small steps—like shadowing and asking questions—can lead to a new direction in your career.

Thierry Wouters

With a background in economics and hospitality, Thierry used an IT traineeship to start a career in tech. Our focus as a wealth manager immediately appealed to him, and after speaking with several colleagues, the positive stories about the culture convinced him this was a place he wanted to join. At Van Lanschot Kempen, he started as a Functional Application Manager responsible for the functional management of all HR systems, including Me@Work, which gave him a broad view of the organisation and many different departments. After the Me@Work implementation, he talked with his manager and colleagues about his next step and took an internal move to another team as a .NET Developer, working on key integrations in the private banking domain and exploring topics like AI. His story shows how combining your background, curiosity, and conversations with colleagues can open up new internal career paths.
